Brenden’s Friday Backpack

What is Brenden’s Friday Backpack?

HIAVE YOU EVER BEEN HUNGRY?

HAVE  YOU EVER MISSED A MEAL, HOW ABOUT GOING ALL WEEKEND WITH NO FOOD:

My name is Vicki Tamboli. I have found that children in our area, mostly those recieveing free or reduced meals at school are leaving school on the last day of the school week and not having anything to eat unitl they return to school on Monday morning  for breakfast.

I  have started a program in our local schools, called a Friday Backpack Program.  I pack the child’s backpack with 3 meals plus a snack for each day they are not at school. This is a new project to most of our county schools. This program is designed to not only help feed the hungry children of our community, improve their school academics, as well as their health. Some of these children don’t have any food at home and they will put extra ketchup, mustard and mayo packets from school in their pockets to save for that evening or weekend meal. Some go without food from Friday lunch until they return to school for  Monday’s breakfast at school. This is taking away from much needed calories and nutrition for these children to thrive.  Studies have shown children who have food insecurities, such as food deprivation, achieve less at school than their conter parts. This program is designed to level the playing field so to speek .

I, with the help of my friends,  Darlene ,Rosalyn and Harry, pack the backpacks (Wal Mart bags) with these meals on Thursday night. I am doing this with food donations from  Teachers, Churches, Rock Presbyterian, Faith Baptist Church , Many other churches in the area, Friends, local civic groups and business owners and of course myself.  At this time I am asking that you help me with food donations. The list is as follows: I would like to thank the Meramec Arnold Elks for the donations they give on a monthly basis. Also would like to thank Windsor Harbor Baptist Church whom also gives a donation on a monthly basis. We and all the children you help appreciate all the donations both Monetary and food wise every week or everymonth. We want you to know that every piece of food is greatly appreciated.
